ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30), and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. They raised her along with her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was multisport in her childhood, however she first discovered soccer at the age of 14. She became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan was able to continue to improve her soccer abilities at Diamond Bar High School. She was chosen as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also participated in the Olympic Development Program's state and regional divisions. Morgan advanced her soccer skills at UC Berkeley, where she was the leader of the California Golden Bears team in scoring from her very first season. The team was able to reach the NCAA Tournament in four years, and the second round twice. Morgan was among the four finalists for Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Morgan completed her studies in 2010 with the third-highest amount of points and goals for Berkeley. Morgan was a soccer player at both the collegiate and national level throughout her college. Morgan suffered an ACL injury in her first season with Berkeley. The injury prevented her from participating in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April of 2008. She scored her first international goal in Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team took home an Olympic gold medal. She also scored her first international goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Tournament in Mexico. One of these goals was a win against Italy that earned the U.S. team the final place at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and he led it to victory against France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score an assist or a goal.
